It isn't catching anything

Work down this list; it's ordered by how often each one turns out to be the cause.

• Check the microphone indicator. iOS shows an orange dot at the top of the screen whenever the mic is live. No dot means no session is running — tap the button in the middle of the tab bar to start one.
• Give it a few seconds. The app listens in windows rather than instantly. A song needs a clear moment of chorus or verse; the first ten seconds of a track sometimes aren't enough for anyone.
• Get closer to the speaker. A loud room is fine — a conversation directly over the microphone isn't.
• Check microphone permission in iOS Settings → SongCatcher → Microphone.
• Some music genuinely isn't in any catalogue. Small independent releases, DJ edits, and live recordings often have no fingerprint anywhere. That's a limit of the databases, not of your phone.

It caught the wrong song

Usually a cover version, a re-recording, or a remix that fingerprints close to the original. Swipe the row to delete it. If a specific song is reliably wrong, send it in — that's fixable.

No lyrics for a song

Lyrics come from open community databases, which are broad but far from complete — non-English and independent releases are the usual gaps. Open the song and tap Try Again; if that fails, the Search Google button next to it usually finds them on the web.

Where there are no lyrics there's no written meaning either, since the meaning is a reading of the words.

Meaning and translation are missing

Those are written only for songs you save — tap the bookmark. Browsing your history costs nothing; saving is what asks for the writing. Open a saved song and it appears within a few seconds.

Places aren't showing

Location is off by default. Turn on Save Location in Settings and allow access when asked. It only applies to songs caught afterwards — it can't backfill where you were last week.

Spotify

Connecting Spotify is optional and only adds the playlist button and exact album art. Everything else works without it. If sign-in fails, disconnect and reconnect from Settings.

Listening in the background

Recognition keeps running with the app in the background or the screen locked. iOS shows the microphone indicator throughout. Tap Stop when you're done — a session left running uses battery.

Sending a diagnostics log

This is the single most useful thing for anything recognition-related. The log records what the app heard and what each service answered. It contains no audio and nothing identifying you.

• Open Settings and scroll to the bottom.
• Tap the version number five times. A Diagnostics section appears.
• Open Debug Log, tap the share button, and send it to guy_merin@outlook.com.

Tell me roughly when the problem happened and what was playing — the log is stamped with times, so that's usually enough to find it.

Deleting your data

Everything lives on your phone. Swipe a row to delete one song, use Delete All Caught Songs in Settings to clear the timeline, or uninstall the app to remove all of it. See the privacy policy for what that covers.
